DRIVER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association’s “Driver of the Year Award” is presented each year to a company driver or owner operator driver who shows courtesy on the highway, has a record of highway safety, sets an example of professionalism in the trucking industry and participates in his/her community’s activities.

The Atlantic Provinces nominee selected as the "Driver of the Year" also qualifies as a candidate for the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) “National Driver of the Year Award”, to be determined by a select committee of the CTA.

Please read the “Driver of the Year” Selection Criteria and Nomination Form carefully to ensure all questions are answered and all required documentation is included with the submission.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Any carrier member of the APTA may submit the name of one driver. This nomination must be supported by the appropriate documentation, using the Nomination Form below.
Define driver as company driver or owner operator driver.
When entering a team, please add both drivers’ names into application. No need to complete two separate applications.
The candidate’s home base must be in the Atlantic Provinces OR he/she must perform no less than 75% of his/her driving duties in the Atlantic Provinces.
The candidate must have at least 5 years of experience.
Each candidate must have a preventable accident-free driving record for the past five (5) years as a full-time driver, driving a commercial vehicle with a GVW or 11,000 kg or greater.
Each candidate must have a valid driver’s license with no suspensions or convictions in the last three (3) years. Each Driver of the Year entry form must be accompanied by a current driver’s abstract (within the last 30 days).
Types of behaviors, personality traits and characteristics that will be looked for in successful candidate:
Years of Service without Accidents
Years of Driving Experience
Safety
Customer Service
Heroism
Other Special Circumstances (Community/Volunteer Work)
High degree of pride in personal and vehicle’s presentation
High degree of skill and experience in freight handling relevant to their field
Professional attitude towards job, customers, and industry as a whole
Strong interest in furthering professional image of the industry, as demonstrated by actions and interests

The successful candidate will be named as the industry’s “Driver of the Year”.

NOMINATION FORM

All nominations must be submitted by October 15, 2025 at 5:00pm.
Any submissions entered after will be included in the next year’s submissions.

The nominee and nominating company must be members of the APTA.
